Shabana Rehman (46) has died

--

Comedian and public debater Shabana Rehman died early on Thursday 29 December. She lived to be 46 years old.

It is the brother Shakeel Rehman who reports the death on Facebook.

“It is with bottomless sadness that I have to announce that our much-loved irreplaceable sister, daughter, aunt, friend, centerpiece, mood spreader and pride passed away peacefully this morning”, writes Shakeel Rehman in the Facebook post where he announces the sad news of Shabana Rehman’s death.

The brother states that she has been hospitalized for the past 8 days.

“She has fought hard and never given up hope. She wanted to live on for her family, her love and for the country that she loved so immensely. But lately, the body has not been able to do more. The disease emaciated her. It has been a pleasure and an honor for me to have had you as my sister Shabana. Always been so fond of you and proud of you. Deeply missed forever,” writes Shakeel Rehman in the post where he shares a number of photos of his sister.

The author Tom Egeland is among the many who express their condolences in the comments section.

At the start of 2022, Shabana was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The treatment in Norway was already finished before the summer. Then the best friend started a fundraising campaign at Spleis so that Shabana could go abroad to receive immunotherapy.

Abroad, experimental immunotherapy is offered in combination with other supplementary cancer treatment. Immunotherapy is treatment that utilizes the body’s own immune system in combating the disease.

The brutal battle against cancer has taken a toll on her body. While earlier this autumn there were several positive reports, Rehman recently said that things looked more serious again: Her body stopped taking in solid food. It has slowed her down considerably.
