Bergen, Incident of violence | Two died after a violent incident in Bergen: Working with several hypotheses

On Wednesday afternoon, two people were declared dead after a serious incident of violence in Bergen. The police confirm that the dead are one woman and one man.

The deaths are being investigated as suspicious.

– Both had injuries that give reason to suspect criminal offences, says prosecutor Inger-Lise Høyland.

On Thursday morning, Høyland stated that the police currently do not have a formal identification of the deceased, but that they do have a preliminary identification.

– We have started notifying next of kin based on the preliminary identification, but it can take up to a day before they are formally identified.

Working out from several hypotheses

Høyland further states that the police are working on the basis of several hypotheses, one of which is that it is a case of murder and suicide.

– One of the hypotheses is that there are no more involved at this time, but it is still early in the investigation.

Høyland is clear that the police do not stick to one track, and continues to investigate the case broadly.

– Nothing is ruled out, we do not lock ourselves into one hypothesis at this time.

The police have made several seizures at the scene. Høyland says that they are going to compare seized items with damage to the deceased.

– We are continuing the investigation and we will ask for assistance from Kripos. The purpose is mainly to map the movements of the dead, contact between them and contact with others, adds Høyland.

Homicide investigation

It was at 4pm on Wednesday that the police responded to a serious incident of violence in Ytre Sandviken in Bergen. They first responded to reports of the discovery of a bloody woman in the street.

– We arrived at the scene shortly after, and life-saving first aid was immediately initiated and the person was sent to Haukeland Hospital. The person was declared dead at the hospital after a while, says operations manager Tom Johannesen.

In parallel with this, greater work was initiated to find the cause of the incident, and in connection with this, another bloody person was found inside a nearby address.

This person was immediately taken to hospital, and was pronounced dead at the hospital, the police write in a press release.
