Tennessee softball’s Karen Weekly on team becoming SEC regular season champions

What Tennessee softball’s Karen Weekly said after the team became back-to-back SEC regular season champions and how Kiki Milloy has persevered this season.

Tennessee softball has a new game time, and it will officially be a seven-hour weather delay at the SEC Tournament on Thursday.

The No. 1 Lady Vols (40-9) won’t face No. 8 seed LSU (39-14) until 6 pm ET Thursday (SEC Network) at Jane B. Moore Field in Auburn, Alabama. The first SEC Tournament quarterfinal game of the day between regular-season champion Tennessee and the Tigers was supposed to start at 11 am ET before a weather delay began around 10:30 am

It was officially in an “indefinite rain delay” around 11 am and the new game time was not established until 2 pm ET. Tennessee is the first of four games scheduled for Thursday, and the second two games of the day were moved to Friday morning.

The SEC Tournament has already seen significant game delays, although they weren’t weather-related Wednesday. But two games in the first round Wednesday went to 14 innings, with Georgia’s walk-off win over host Auburn setting the record for the longest game in SEC Tournament history at 4 hours and 21 minutes.

The Lady Vols won their second straight SEC regular-season championship for the first time last weekend. They swept the SEC titles last year, also for the first time, and they have a chance to sweep the titles in back-to-back seasons for the third time in conference history. LSU and Florida are the only two teams to accomplish the feat.

The Lady Vols completed the sweep of Kentucky to end the regular season with a walk-off win in the eighth inning Saturday. They have now recorded their 21st consecutive full season with 40 or more wins going into the postseason.
