Fire in elderly center: Person dead

On Thursday morning, a fire broke out in a resident’s room at the Bøkesenteret in Larvik.

Bøkesenteret is a center for the elderly with 31 apartments, a cafeteria and other services.

– There will be a fire in an apartment on the third floor. The fire brigade is in the process of extinguishing the fire. The building is being evacuated, Sør-Öst police district wrote on X, formerly Twitter, at 11.26am.

Barely 20 minutes later, the fire was declared extinguished.

The police initially reported that they had no information that anyone had been injured in the fire. A short time later, however, they report that one person has been confirmed dead.

– A resident of the center has died. Relatives have been notified and no other injuries have been reported, says operations manager Christian Prytz to Dagbladet.

Larvik municipality has set up a crisis team as a result of the incident, they write on their website.
