As he has done every day of the trial, the former president spoke to reporters before entering Manhattan Criminal Court, railing against the case and the judge overseeing it.

Trump complained that Judge Juan Merchan denied his request to attend Thursday’s hearing at the US Supreme Court, which is weighing his claim that presidents are immune from prosecution for any potential crimes committed while in office.

“I would have loved to have been there, but this judge would not — I should be there — but he wouldn’t allow it to happen,” Trump told reporters. “I think he puts himself above the Supreme Court, which is unfortunate, isn’t it? But the argument on immunity is very important. The president has to have immunity.

“This has nothing to do with me,” he added. “This has to do with a president in the future for 100 years from now. If you don’t have immunity, you’re not gonna do anything, you’re gonna become a ceremonial president, you’re just gonna be doing nothing .”
