For the first time, you will have the opportunity to drive like real-life Formula 1 drivers in the career mode. Are you as good a driver as Max Verstappen and manage to be just as dominant when you drive the Dutchman, or can you do far better than what Lance Stroll can do in dad’s car? Now you get the opportunity to try just that. Play as your favorite and build on their stats and reputation in the sport, or take control of one of the legendary drivers and put them back behind the wheel to continue their era.
For us Norwegians, it is extra fun to be able to choose to take control of Dennis Hauger and try to get him into the best company. Like any driver, you can end up with a contract in either F1 or F2 when new contract negotiations take place. If you don’t want to use one of the drivers from real life, you can create your own driver and build yourself up from scratch.
It is not just about getting to the finish line first for the drivers who drive for the weaker teams. It is often so important to be the best among the two drivers in the same team as this gives you the opportunity to decide more in the development of the car. Your reputation and position in the team can be improved by completing various challenges throughout the season.
Completely new this year are also secret meetings with both own and other teams. Here you can have conversations with the rival in secret to see if there might be a better offer on the table in the coming season, for example, but at the same time you have to be careful so that you are not caught red-handed. It can worsen the relationship with both your current and other teams.
Throughout your career, you build your own reputation by constantly completing awards. This can be things like setting fastest lap time x number of times, number of points in the championship or number of times you have qualified top 5 and more. All this will strengthen your position in Formula 1 history.
Brand new this year are so-called social careers. Here you get a fixed set-up to use in one episode before the criteria change in the next episode. Here you choose which car you will drive during this period and which tracks. This changes periodically without any fixed length being set for each episode, but a couple or three weeks will probably be the norm as we understood it. This is not just for the most hardened drivers, but is divided into four different difficulty levels on the AI opponents, which means that everyone competes on an equal footing, and you get rewards based on how high you are placed in the different levels.
All the new additions to the career mode will also carry over to the co-op career, where you can race with a friend.
F1 24 will be available on May 31 for those who purchase the Standard Edition, and three days earlier for those who purchase the Champions Edition. The game is released on PS4/5, Xbox One/Series and PC.
