JORDAL AMFI (Dagsavisen): The 2-1 victory means that the teams are now level in the semi-final series. While the Oilers won the first game in Stavanger on Sunday, it was VIF’s triumph after the game was delayed on Tuesday.

And the goal was of the strange variety. Although Mika Partanen was credited with the goal, it was another own goal. A shot was eventually hit by an Oilers skate, which eventually ended up in the goal. VIF thus won 2–1.

Great chances both ways, but…

It was a bit unbelievable that Stavanger did not take the lead after just over two minutes. The guests played outnumbered and finally got off a shot from the blue line. The attempt went on the inside of the post and out. The Stavanger players frantically called for a goal, but the referees did not receive a signal on the clock, which meant that the score was still 0–0.

Two minutes later it was VIF who played in the majority. Thomas Olsen got fired from a good attempt, but the shot was saved. Soon after, VIF had a double chance with Jørgen Karterud and Mathis Olimb, but both attempts were saved by goalkeeper Henrik Holm.

Tobias Breivold got the most cheers in the first period after eleven minutes played. Dan Kissel came all alone with the goalkeeper and tried to put the puck between his legs, but the goalkeeper was on the scoresheet and saved well. “The tube”, followed by three or four claps, came from VIF’s supporters group Førsterrekka.

– Wake up now, Vålerenga, it came from Førsterrekka.

And VIF did. Karterud came all alone with Holm and got the puck past the goalkeeper with five minutes left in the period, but the attempt touched one post and went out. Thus it was 0-0 after the first 20 minutes.

– We have been a little too passive. There is more to take off. We lose the puck a little too easily in our own zones, Anderssen said.

VIF dominance, but…

The start of the second period was calm, before it really caught fire after 11-12 minutes of play. VIF had four big chances on the rap:

  • First, Stian Solberg had a great double chance. He shot at goal, the attempt was saved, while the rebound crept just wide.
  • Then it was Olimb’s turn 30 seconds later. He came alone with the goalkeeper, but was probably a little too selfless when he tried to find Martin Røymark, who was followed by an Oilers player. The attempt was aborted at the last minute.
  • And soon after, Alex Dostie came alone with the keeper, but the flick went into Hoff’s shoulder and beyond.

Then all of Jordal cheered for scoring when Colin Bengtsson hit the back of the net, but unfortunately for the man with the golden helmet, the puck hit the back of the goal. And then what had to happen happened – the opposite direction.

Italian Anthony Salinitri came alone with Breivold and dribbled the goalkeeper with a wonderful body trick. A second later, the puck was in the roof of the net. Thus it was 1-0 after 40 of 60 minutes.

Equalization and victory

Stavanger started the third period best, but the teams were level after 43 minutes and 49 seconds. VIF clung to Stavanger’s zone, and in the end Kalle Ekelund shot from quite a dead angle. The puck beautifully snuck past Holm in the Oilers cage and into the goal to make it 1-1.

With ten minutes remaining, Stavanger played in the lead. They created two great chances – a long-range shot and one where there was a clatter in front of Breivold, but neither of the attempts hit the target.

The visitors pushed for a score at the end of the third period, but were never able to get the ball into the goal. Thus, embarrassment was needed to choose a winner, and there VIF was the strongest.
