It is currently unclear whether the powder can be dangerous. There are several people inside the building, writes Sør-West police district in a message.

– We are informed and assist local police on an ongoing basis, says senior advisor Eirik Veum in PST to VG.

The mosque is located in Hillevåg in Stavanger. The police received a report about the case at 3.40pm.

The police’s bomb squad has been mobilized as specialist expertise to secure the package. They will arrive with the police helicopter, the police write.

National aid resources have now arrived at the scene, the police report.

The police report at 18.50 that a person has undergone a cleaning procedure and taken to hospital for a check-up. No one has been reported to be injured or have any symptoms of any kind. A person has been in contact with the contents of the package.

Chemical divers are on their way to carry out a safe examination of the package and its contents.

– We received a package letter today which our imam opened. The package was addressed to us and contained some hate messages and some white powder. Because of the powder, the police have taken it as a terrorist threat, says Ahmet Coksurer at the Rogaland Islamic Community Association (ISMG / Eyup Sultan Mosque).

The police tell VG that they have no hypothesis about terrorism.

– Did the package contain hate messages?

– I have no comment on that, says operations manager Steinar Knudsen to VG and adds that he has not seen the package.

The police do not consider the situation to be one for the public, and that the incident is limited to a building.

– Has the bomb squad arrived?

– No, the expected arrival is no later than 8 p.m., says operations manager Knudsen.

The police report that no questioning has been carried out, but that they are having a dialogue with those who are inside the building.
