NEST TUN: The queues to ride were long down the pedestrian street. ZB riding school in Sletten provided two ponies, safety equipment and adult horse sitters who took the children on a horse ride in the pedestrian street.

Joy mixed with horror

One of the many little ones who got a ride was Amanda Karlsen Monsen (3). With a slightly too big helmet and riding vest, she was lifted into the saddle by mum Carina Karlsen. There, Amanda took a good hold of the edge of the saddle, and the smile on her little face told of a joy mixed with horror when the pony started walking from the Nefa farm in the direction of the Amfi centre.

When the ride was over, the message to mum was crystal clear: – I want to ride one more time.

The family often go for a walk to a stable near where they live and give carrots to the horses there.

– She has sat on a horse before, but this is the first time she has taken part in a small trip. It seems to have added flavor. What was most surprising was that she wanted to ride, while her older brother refused. But that’s the way it is, says Carina Karlsen.

Will create activity

Homeowner Rune Birkeland has recently taken over as head of the Nesttun Center Association. He also owns the riding school at Sletten, so it was no problem to get ponies for Saturday’s stunt.

– The reason for the pony ride is that we want to create more activity in the nice pedestrian street we have here at Nesttun. We want to attract more people to Nesttun, but then they need to know that something is happening here. This is the first step on the road, and there has been a very good response with many parents and children enjoying themselves. Then we’ll see what we come up with in the future. The goal is for it to be cozy and fun to come to Nesttun, says Rune Birkeland.
