(Drammen’s newspaper): On Thursday afternoon, the police received a report that a man in his 30s was missing from an institution in Lier in Drammen. The man was last seen around 1.30pm on Thursday.
Just after 8 pm, the police reported that a search operation had been launched, but around 01 am, operations manager Tommy Eriksen informed Drammens Tidende that the man had been found dead.
– The search operation ended in a tragic outcome, he says to Drammens Tidende, and states that they have confirmed who the person is and that next of kin have been notified.
Found by volunteers
It was volunteers who found the man lifeless, and off the beaten track, reports Eriksen.
When Drammens Tidende spoke to Eriksen around 01:00, the search operation had ended, but the police were working to investigate the case.
Before the man was found, a police helicopter was on the scene, and tactical and technical searches were carried out. Volunteers were called out, and a search operation was launched which was coordinated together with the Central Rescue Service.
When asked what they think about the efforts of the volunteers, Eriksen replies:
– It is very good when it comes to the use of organized volunteers. As for the residents, we prefer that they are not out looking if there is an indication of a tragic outcome. We don’t want others to figure it out on their own without professional help.
Gathered at the Red Cross House
Both the Red Cross and Norwegian People’s Aid were in place at the gathering place at the Red Cross building in Tranby, reported Drammens Tidende’s reporter from the scene at 10.15 pm.
At 22.30 the police helicopter took off from the area and shortly afterwards the police drone car was also in place.
