Primarily wants kindergartens in Oslo to be run by private companies – Dagsavisen

– The city council wants more people to get nursery places close to where they live, and I am very happy that we will be establishing more nursery places in Løren this autumn. Parents want a nursery place nearby and now many families can look forward to the fact that in a short time the new Gregerskvartal nursery school will open in the heart of Løren, says education councillor, Julie Remen Midtgarden to Dagsavisen.

NOK 80 million

The city council has now decided that they will buy Greger’s quarter kindergarten from USBL and Eiendomsplan for NOK 80 million.

After several years of major development in Løren, there is a need for additional nursery capacity in this area in the Grünerløkka district in the capital. The nursery is part of a new building and a desired and necessary supplement to the nursery provision in this part of the city.

According to the city council, there is a need for approx. 830 nursery places in the new district of Løren. A district that is constantly growing.

In 2016, the red-green city council introduced a ban on the establishment of private kindergartens in Oslo. When the new blue-green city council took over in October last year, they ensured that it will again be allowed to establish private kindergartens.

But that is not relevant for Greger’s nursery school and Løren botanical nursery school, which are now almost ready for shouting and playing.

Would buy

– I note that some claim that the kindergartens have been delayed because the city council wants them to be run privately, but that is not correct. The city council wants to make arrangements for private operators, but these nurseries have come a long way in the process and work is now being done to prepare a case for the city council for purchase, said city councilor for education, Julie Remen Midtgarden (H) to Dagsavisen in February.

Now the city council has decided that they will buy Greger’s kindergarten in Løren for NOK 80 million from the developer.

Now the city council says that they are putting the needs of children and parents ahead of politics.

– We have inherited a number of municipal kindergarten projects from the red-greens. This city council primarily wants kindergartens established in Oslo to be run by private individuals, but we also have a responsibility to quickly secure more places in areas with great need. This city council is pragmatic and puts the needs of the population and parents before ideological blinders, unlike the previous city council, says education councillor, Julie Remen Midtgarden.

City councilor for culture and industry, Anita Leirvik North (H), is also happy that the kindergarten will soon be in place.

– As a developer, I want the municipality of Oslo to be a predictable partner and facilitator for the nursery operators. There will be further growth in the number of children in the Løren area over the next ten years, and we will continue to work for increased capacity in the area, says Anita Leirvik North.

It is important for the city’s population that the development of areas such as Løren is followed up with good service offerings that meet their needs.

– It is important for the city’s population that the development of areas such as Løren is followed up with good service offerings that meet their needs. We are therefore concerned with creating lively and good local environments with services for both children and adults, and not least ensuring that the nursery and school facilities are good. The municipality is continuously working to further develop this for the good of the city, says city councilor for culture and industry, Anita Leirvik North.

The decision on the purchase has now been made in the city council, and the matter is sent to the city council for a formal decision on the purchase.
