In February, it became clear that Rami Chumber will take over from Astri Elgethun as head of the Society. Now he has taken up his board.

Chumber will take over for Elgethun on 17 May. The board consists of eight people, including Chumber. He says the common denominator for all of them is that they are really passionate about the Society.

– I have managed to get to know them a little, and know that I have an incredibly great group behind me. They have different backgrounds from the house and volunteering. I think the organization benefits from that, says Chumber.

The 23-year-old himself has a background from the café and serving gang (KSG) and UKA. During the leadership election in February, he won after two rounds of questioning, where he won over rival candidate Mari Charlotte Soland with 51.5 percent of the vote.

– Shall create events that challenge

Chumber and the rest of the board can be said to be historic. They are the very first board to lead the Society in the new building, which is scheduled to open after the summer. Chumber thinks it’s great, and he says that the board will work to make the members feel at home.

– I know that the gangs at Samfundet have worked for a long time to ensure that we make use of the space and the increased scope we get with the new building, says Chumber.

He believes the key is to ensure high activity, and that the building is filled with politics, culture and strange traditions – in the familiar Samfundet style. The discussion about exactly what the board term should entail is already in full swing. Chumber says that an overarching goal will be to ensure that the transition to new construction goes well, and that the membership feels looked after at a time of major changes at the house.

– Then we are also very motivated to increase political awareness among the members, and create political events that engage and challenge, says the incoming leader.

Several of the board members have also previously stood as leadership candidates. Åsmund Hunderi Stemland, Ella Johanne Devold and Mari Charlotte Soland all ran against Chumber during the leadership election in February. Now they will all be part of the management of the Society. From 17 May, the Society’s board will look like this:

For the record: Åsmund Hunderi Stemland is a former member of the Student Media in Trondheim and Under Dusken. Borghild Rauø is also a former member of the Student Media in Trondheim and Radio Revolt.
