The abortion committee proposes to raise the abortion limit from the current 12 weeks to 18, but several bodies are in favor of increasing it to 22 weeks. This is the opinion of the Equality Ombudsman, the Human-Ethical Association, LO and the Women’s Movement’s abortion committee.
The equality ombudsman goes further than the abortion committee and recommends a self-determined limit at week 22.
This is according to a consultation statement signed by equality and discrimination ombudsman Bjørn Erik Thon, writes Vårt Land. The ombud therefore reaches the same conclusion as, among others, the National Organization in Norway (LO), the Human-Ethical Association and the Women’s Movement’s abortion committee.
– It will strengthen women’s rights if the limit for self-determined abortion is increased to week 22, sums up the equality and discrimination ombudsman. (NTB)
These agencies therefore want an abortion limit that touches the limit of survival for preterm births:
Survival in children born extremely prematurely has increased over the last ten-year period, and the proportion of children born at week 23 who survived to discharge in the last four-year period is now almost 60 per cent. Survival if the child is born at week 24 is close to 70 per cent.
The question then arises as to whether these bodies are in favor of allowing feticide. In that case, it is a return to the barbarism before the introduction of Christianity when children were released into nature.
