Arendal, Friholmsgaten | Woman declared dead in Arendal – the whole street blocked off

ARENDAL (Nettavisen): 11.20 the police write in a press release that a woman has been confirmed dead after an incident in the center of Arendal.

It is currently unclear what has happened.

– Life-saving first aid was attempted, but unfortunately life could not be saved. Relatives are in the process of being notified. The police have cordoned off a large area around the pharmacy and are now working to interview any witnesses. It is too early to say anything about what has happened. We currently do not know whether it is about something punishable or whether it could be an accident. The police will come back with more information as soon as possible, says police attorney Vanja Bruvoll in the Agder police district in a press release.

Operations manager at the Agder police district, Øyvind Hægeland, tells Nettavisen that the police were notified by the AMK central at 09.27 on Tuesday morning.

Shortly after 11.00, Nettavisen’s dispatcher reports that crime technicians in white suits are at the scene. Armored police cars with armed police are also in place.

Police on the scene say that the street will be blocked off for several hours.

– We have deployed all available resources, says police attorney Vanja Bruvoll to Nettavisen at half past twelve.

The police are currently categorizing the death as suspicious, and are working hard to find out what happened and to secure leads.

Anita Nielsen is store manager at Interoptik Brillehjørnet in Friholmsgaten in Arendal. She tells Nettavisen that she came to work as usual a little after 08.30 on Tuesday morning.

– Then it was completely quiet here. Eventually there were two police cars and two ambulances at the scene, says Nielsen to Nettavisen.

At first the police blocked off a small part of the street, but now the whole street is closed.

– I can’t get customers in or out of the store. The police are on the scene, but the ambulance has left, says the store manager to Nettavisen.

The police have asked Nielsen about surveillance images, which she does not have, but they have not wanted to say what has happened.

– Now I have to call my customers and say that they cannot come for eye tests today. I am not allowed to let them in, and lose a whole day’s turnover. This affects several shops in the street here, says Nielsen.
