On Monday afternoon, after fourteen hours of running at the Søgne stadium, distance phenomenon Mari Melsom Kristensen is poised to smash her old record of 168.224 km in a 24-hour run.

After 14 hours of running, Mari’s GPS watch showed 110 kilometers run, if she continues at the same pace she will end up with just under 190 kilometers in 24 hours. New running mates, most of them from the ultra running community, stop by Søgne stadium to cheer, motivate and run several laps with Mari so that she can achieve her ambitious goal.

Ongoing interview

In order to get a few words about the distance phenomenon, N247’s writing reporter had to lace up his sneakers for a (rare!) running interview.

– So far, both motivation and body are going well. Really appreciate those who join and run with me. The pace is such that you can easily keep the conversations going, and here we share absolutely everything and more! Of course, it is important to have a steady intake of nutrients and fluids. I have a lot of sweets to choose from, but now I’m getting a bit tired of licorice and gummy bears, so there will probably be more pizza leftovers throughout the afternoon and evening.

Although I am currently in a good position in relation to the record form, a lot can happen along the way, but for now I am looking forward to shattering the old record, what we got out of the ongoing interview with the distance phenomenon Kristensen.

Finished at midnight tonight

At 24.00 Mari will finish the 24 hour race at Søgne stadium, hopefully without physical injuries (blisters on the feet can be a challenge) and with a new record. N247 will return on Monday with the final result.
