Peak traffic and the biggest delays on the roads are expected between 12 noon and 4 p.m.

According to the National Roads Administration, the amount of traffic during the second Easter Sunday is quite similar to the first Easter Sunday, but there are normally fewer delays and fewer queues.

At the largest airports, a major breakthrough is expected on Monday.

At Oslo Airport alone, 45,000 passengers are expected to land.

Tips for those who are going home

– We imagine that it may be better to travel early or late, says traffic operator Øyvind Eik at Vegtrafikksentralen öst.

The traffic operator understands that people will want to wait a bit for their journey home, and especially if good weather is expected.

– But then there can quickly be traffic, if several people travel at the same time.

If you are traveling by plane today, press officer Øystein Løwer at Avinor has some advice for a seamless journey:

  • Don’t forget anything on board the plane
  • Take your luggage off the baggage belt as soon as it appears
  • Drive carefully if you are driving home from the airport

Here you can read how the traffic is going:

Eastern Norway

According to traffic operator Øyvind Eik at the Vegtrafikksentralen east, there will probably be heavy traffic in the following places on Monday:

  • E6 from Øyer and in the direction of Mjøsbrua.
  • E6 past Gardermoen, at Kløfta and inwards towards Oslo
  • E16 from Hønefoss-Sollihøgda in the direction of Drammen-Sandvika.

Southern Norway

According to traffic operator at Vegtrafikksentralen south, Magnus Nilsen, it is rare to have large Easter traffic in Southern Norway.

– But it will probably be good with traffic on the roads, says Nilsen.

Westland

Based on experience, you have to expect queues at the bottleneck on the E16 Trengereid.

Traffic operator Kjetil Larsen at Vegtrafikksentralen west says that some traffic is also expected from the south between Stavanger and Bergen, over the ferry connections Mortavika-Arsvågen and Sandvikvåg-Halhjem, as well as Lavik-Oppedal.

In Trøndelag

On Monday morning, traffic is flowing well on the roads in Trøndelag.

But a lot of traffic is expected throughout the day, according to traffic operator Andreas Johansen at Vegtrafikksentralen.

These roads are suspended in Trøndelag on Monday:

  • E6 from Oppdal towards Trondheim.
  • E14 from Stjørdal
  • E6 from Nordland and into Trondheim.

In northern Norway

On Monday morning, a minibus and a car collided in Stamsund in Lofoten.

Both an air ambulance and a rescue helicopter were sent to the scene of the accident. County road 817 is closed after the accident.

For the remaining parts of the country, traffic should flow smoothly, according to Jonas Johnsen at Vegtrafikksentralen nord.

Planes and trains

This is the day in Easter that the vast majority of holidaymakers by plane have chosen to come home on, according to press officer Løwer at Avinor.

– But we are well prepared, so it should go well, he says.

It is expected that 45,000 will land at Gardermoen, while 40,000 will take off from Gardermoen on Easter Monday.

The trend is similar in Bergen, Stavanger and Trondheim.

On Bergensbanen, there are buses for trains between Bergen and Voss after a freight train derailed at Arna station. This leads to delays.

Communications manager in Vy, Åge-Christoffer Lundeby, reports that there can be delays of between 20 and 45 minutes, and encourages people to arrive in good time.

Bane Nor’s press officer, Gunnar Børseth, reports that it is still uncertain when Bergensbanen can resume normal operations.

– Part of the work is beginning to be completed, but not everything is finished. We continue to work on site. The train has been removed, but we are still working on the infrastructure, says Børseth to NRK.
