LO affects widely and over large parts of the country if the mediation in the wage settlement with NHO breaks down. Almost 23,000 members will be made redundant in the first round of strikes.

If the parties in this year’s wage settlement do not agree by midnight on Sunday night, 22,947 LO members may be taken out on strike – in the first instance. In total, around 185,000 LO-organised workers may be made redundant if a general strike in the frontline profession becomes prolonged.

– We always aim to reach an agreement, but are well prepared for a strike, says Følsvik.

Announces general strike

Mediation starts on Friday. The parties will meet for compulsory mediation on Friday morning. If they do not agree before the deadline expires at midnight on the night of Sunday, there may be a strike on the same day.

The conflict will be implemented from the beginning of working hours, no later than 6 o’clock on Sunday 16 April. LO plans to withdraw employees in a wide range of industries across large parts of the country if there is a conflict.

YS announced earlier on Tuesday that almost 1,500 members will be included in the organisation’s first withdrawal.

Requires more to route with

Both YS and LO require securing the employees’ share of value creation and increased purchasing power.

After several years of falling real wages, measures must be taken to ensure that employees do not fall even further behind price developments, they demand.

– Norwegian workers have taken responsibility through several challenging years for Norwegian working life, with the pandemic and high price growth. Now we see that many companies are doing very well and profits are high. Our goal is to equalize differences between people and ensure that Norwegian workers get their share of the value creation, says Følsvik.
