It has now been seven months since comedian and public debater Shabana Rehman (46) announced that she had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer with spread.
Rehman was told by the doctors that she did not have long to live, and has been seriously ill for the past few months.
– Have started planning for 2023
– The last few weeks have been very tough. I have been through several critical phases. It is not a given which way this will go, and I have to live with that. I have accepted that, Rehman told Dagbladet during the presentation of Norsk PEN’s Ossietzky prize.
In a new interview with Se og Hør, she now opens up about her thoughts on death.
Not afraid to die
During the award ceremony, Rehman was able to reveal to Dagbladet that she has started planning for 2023, against all odds. She tells Se og Hør that she is now looking forward to New Year’s Eve.
– It’s magical every day I get closer to New Year’s Eve. At the start I didn’t know if I would get to experience either Easter or 17 May. New Year’s Eve was unimaginable. But that’s why it’s getting so scary – now that we’re getting closer to this day.

During the interview, it emerges that the cancer in the stomach has grown and that things are more serious now.
Still, Rehman is not afraid of dying.
– I have alternated between the fact that it is okay to travel on, if that is what happens – to the fact that I love to live. The moments that are painless are completely unique, and deeper than anything else I have experienced. I am familiar with dying, I experience no fear. But life gives me so much more, she says to Se og Hør.

First Christmas together
In the middle of the fight to the death, Rehman found an unexpected bright spot. This summer she was able to reveal that she had found love with artist and farmer Petter Simonsen (49).
Despite the doctor’s advice, the comedian has started planning Christmas with his loved one.
– Would not have survived another round
– It will be a farm Christmas. I think it is very romantic, Rehman could tell Dagbladet.
To Se og Hør, she reveals that her wish list is not very long:
– The best Christmas present now is that the two of us are together – wherever we are. I love life – and you, Petter!
