I live at Sandvollan in Inderøy. Here we have a local Prix shop. Great staff, and a shop I have used as I think it is important to have a shop in my hometown. At the same time, it has annoyed me for years that the further out into the country you go in old Nord-Trøndelag, the more expensive Coop stores you find. What is the social contribution Coop makes here? Those who live centrally get cheaper goods than those of us who live more rurally. In any case, I have supported my local Prix and the wonderful people who have their workplace there. Now it’s over.

I read in the newspaper that Torbjørn Skei, head of Coop Midt-Norge, had an annual salary, including pension and other benefits, of 12 million. And at the same time that his salary in 2023 had increased by 10 per cent – far above the other employees in Coop. The chairman claims that Skei has an extraterrestrial responsibility after all and defends his salary. It’s just bullshit. I myself know farmers who work 14–16 hours a day for a salary of approximately NOK 300,000. They struggle to get their everyday life going. I am tired of leaders enriching themselves and have lost the ethical and moral standard necessary to build a good society.

That is why I have decided to never shop at a Coop store again. I will shop at Rema. Odd Reitan is rich, but he has never claimed that his company is “a little bit yours”. At the same time, he spends a lot of money on Trønder sports and renovates Trønder buildings, which benefits everyone. Coop is history for me.
