Kristoffer Joner, The Sailor of War | Kristoffer Joner has not worked for two years: – It was too much

Kristoffer Joner (51) has been one of Norway’s leading actors for the past 25 years, and played in a number of major Norwegian films such as “Bølgen”, “Skjelvet” and “Krigsseileren”.

On Saturday, he can win a Gullrute for his role in the latter film, but the time after filming the blockbuster has not only been easy for the 51-year-old.

In an interview with Bergens Tidende, the actor says that after an intense period with two film recordings in less than a year, he went on a rampage.

– I worked for eleven months straight, went straight from the Viaplay series “Maskineriet” to “Krigsseileren”. I love my job, but it was too much, Joner tells the newspaper.

Haven’t worked in two years

In the interview, it appears that Joner has not been near a film set for over two years.

Naturally, one can think back to the fact that two years ago the world was on the brink of a pandemic, and several industries, including the film industry, struggled post-corona with war, expensive times and bad economic conditions. But Joner was also tired.

On a film set, Joner says that they like to work 16-hour days and that it goes smoothly during recording. When one then goes home and takes it easy, it can quickly become tough.

– It is a tough transition for many actors.

Couldn’t relax

The actor tells the newspaper that he was unable to bring his body and mind to stop working, and realize that it was a holiday.

– So I continued to work. Task five was to make coffee, task seven was to brush the teeth. Things like that. Call it what you will – going on a rampage, being burnt out. I had to find a way out of it, says the 51-year-old.

Although there have been offers of roles and scripts have been sent, the actor has not been ready for the past two years.

Now, however, he is on his way back, and is once again ready for new film roles.
