On Wednesday, President Vladimir Putin announced “partial mobilization”. According to Defense Minister Sergej Sjojgu, there will be 300,000 new soldiers in the first instance – but that there could be far more over time.

It was the YouTube channel “Popularnaya Politika”, which has ties to the jailed opposition leader Alexei Navalny, which was responsible for the stunt with the sons of Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov and Prime Minister Mikhail Misjustin.

It is the independent Russian media Mediazona that tells how the presenter Dmitrij Nizovtsev and his people are said to have called around the live broadcast.

They pretended to be employees of the military registration and enlistment office and offered these people to come to the recruiting stations as part of the mobilization.

The person who, according to the YouTube channel, was Dmitry Peskov’s son, Nikolaj (32), refused to come to the recruitment office.

The danger no doubt

– If you know that I am Mr. Peskov, you should understand why it is not quite right for me to be there, he replied and promised “to solve this problem on another level”.

His father Dmitry Peskov has commented on the conversation to the Telegram channel “Podjom”. He says that “the semantic part” of the interview with his son has been removed.

– I have no doubt that he is the only right choice. And neither is he, says Peskov.

Prime Minister Mikhail Misjustin’s son is named Aleksej (23). The presenter asked if he “wanted to go to the front”, “not to the front” – but sign up for the reserve with a view to being mobilized in the future.

Misjutin’s son replied that he is currently studying for a master’s degree and “has no desire to fight yet”.

Not politicians

Both of Misyutin’s sons, Aleksej and Aleksandr, study at the prestigious Baumann University in Moscow, wrote “Otkrytije Media” in 2020. From what VG understands, the Misyutin family has not commented on the telephone conversation on the YouTube channel.

It is already clear that politicians in the parliament’s two chambers cannot be called up as soldiers, reports RIA Novosti. It is not clear whether it also applies to the presidential administration, where Dmitry Peskov, he himself said in an interview on Wednesday. The same Peskov did not want to answer questions from reporters on Wednesday about whether Russia’s borders will be closed to prevent people from escaping from the mobilization.

Full flights out of Russia have been reported. The countries to which Russians can go without a so-called “foreign passport” are Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia. Several websites have told how one can avoid being called up during mobilization, while lawyers are puzzled by much about the order from the Kremlin.

– Now the tickets for all these countries are sold out, you won’t be able to fly there for the next three days, says Anastasia Burakova, founder of an organization that helps people to leave Russia as a result of the war according to Nastoyashche Vremya.

With a foreign passport, but without a visa, Russians can go to Turkey, Montenegro, Serbia and Azerbaijan, among others.

– Prepared for the worst

It is currently unclear who will be called up now, but Pavel Tschikov, head of the organization “Agora”, which helps conscripts, says on his Telegram page that it is probably first those who have had their conscription and signed a contract to be reservist, who is mobilized first.

– But why should they call up 300,000 men if there are 6,000 who have been killed, as Shoigu says, asks the lawyer Aleksei Pryanishnikov, according to Nastoyashche Vremya.

– I want to prepare for the worst possible scenario, that all men, regardless of age, are refused to leave the country, continues the lawyer.

The war commissar in the Yakutia area says on Thursday that the monthly salary for the mobilized will be from NOK 35,000 a month – which is far above a normal Russian monthly salary.
