Shabana Rehman has passed away. That’s what his brother Shakeel Rehman writes on Facebook. She lived to be 46 years old.
– It is with bottomless sadness that I have to announce that our much-loved irreplaceable sister, daughter, aunt, friend, centrepiece, mood spreader and pride passed away peacefully this morning, he writes in the post on Thursday afternoon.
Rehman was a stand-up comedian, writer, author, playwright and speaker. She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in January 2022.

– She has fought hard and never given up hope. She wanted to live on for her family, her love and for the country that she loved so immensely, writes her brother.
– But lately the body has not been able to handle more. The disease emaciated her. Always been so fond of you and proud of you. Deeply missed forever.
Open about the disease
It was in April 2022 that the well-known comedian Shabana Rehman told the outside world that she had contracted cancer.
That is why she believes the extra time Rehman lived was important
– I thought it was either dysentery or a stomach ulcer. Especially stomach ulcers, since I’ve been in a lot in recent years. But then it was neither. It was pancreatic cancer with spread, she told Se og Hør at the time.
The comedian himself has shared openly about the course of the illness on his own Instagram.
She received the diagnosis in January 2022. According to Rehman herself, she was then told by the doctors that the situation was very serious, and that if the treatment did not work, she would not survive 2022.

Rehman started as a columnist in VG in 1996 and debuted as a stand-up comedian three years later. She was a columnist in Dagbladet for seven years from 2000 and later in Aftenposten.
Rehman made a name for herself when she appeared in Dagbladet in 2000, wearing only body paint with the Norwegian flag. In 2004, it caused a stir when she lifted Mullah Krekar during an event in Oslo.
Rehman has previously won prizes such as the Fritt Ord, the Fredrikke prize and the Pillarguri prize. In August, she was awarded Norsk PEN’s Ossietzky Prize 2022 for her exercise of freedom of expression in a “creative and sensational way” over several decades.
