The Danish artist Hugo Helmig has died. He was 24 years old. This is reported by BT. Helmig died on 23 November, but the death has not been made public until now.

“Hugo had an all-too-short but good life that has left a mark on many people. Hugo would like to stay with us, and he had many plans and hopes for the future,” the family writes on the artist’s Instagram account.

The 24-year-old was the son of Thomas Helmig – one of Denmark’s most popular artists – and former supermodel Renée Toft Simonsen.

Renée Toft Simonsen has shared several photos of Hugo over the years on her own Instagram profile, and quotes the Bible:

“But an angel of the Lord appeared to him and strengthened him.”

Hugo’s sister, Ida Marie Helmig, has also shared a post about her brother on her Instagram profile.

“I miss you… every day.. all the time”, is one of the things she writes.

In the same post, she describes the loss of her brother as unreal and unbearable.

“Dear beloved Hugo. I wish I could go back in time a week and make sure you truly understood how much I love you and will always love you,” she continues.

“You are so infinitely grateful for every single second I got with you. Forever – dad,” writes Thomas Helmig on Instagram.

The songs “Please Don’t Lie” and “Wild” were big hits in Denmark and Germany in 2017, and Helmig was, according to Danmarks Radio, the most successful Danish artist internationally in 2020.

In the same year, he put his artistic career on hold, due to problems with anxiety and substance abuse.

The cause of death has not been made public.
