The new EU rules will require charging companies to share data about the charging network in real time. This also includes updated price information. The Roads Directorate has now sent the rules out for consultation.
Secretary General Christina Bu of the Electric Vehicle Association is positive:
– The Electric Vehicle Association has long called for more consumer-friendly price information, she says.
Many people struggle to find the charging price
In this year’s edition of the annual survey “Elbilisten” from the Electric Vehicle Association, 74 per cent say that they struggle to find out what charging actually costs*.
Today, price lists, which the Electric Vehicle Association has on its website, must be updated manually:
Here is the price overview:
This costs fast charging
But with the new rules, the information will be able to be updated automatically when the fast charging companies change their prices.
– This will make it easier for a conscious consumer to compare prices and it may mean that the charging companies have to compete more on price, says Bu.
Other real-time information, such as whether the charger is available or not, will also be available. It prevents toll trips to full charging stations.

The price should also be visible on the charging station
The EU rules say nothing about the price information having to be visible on the charging station itself.
However, the Norwegian government writes in its charging strategy that it also wants easily accessible price information in the immediate vicinity of the charging point. It is not sufficient that this information can only be found on the companies’ websites or in mobile apps.
Bu agrees with that:
– The new rules are a good start, but the Electric Vehicle Association will work to ensure that the price information is also visible at the charging station, she says.
* «Elbilisten” is the Electric Vehicle Association’s annual survey conducted among electric car drivers in Norway. This year’s survey had 15,300 respondents.
