The alarm was raised last Saturday, when German Luise F. (12) did not appear at her home in Freudenberg in Germany.
Earlier that day she had visited a friend, reports the news agency Newsflash.
Found in the forest
The parents reportedly tried to call her, but she did not pick up the phone.
A few hours later, they reported her missing, and the police launched a massive search for the 12-year-old.
The next day, Luise was found, dead.
The remains were found in a wooded area near a disused train station in Wildenburg, which is about 1,200 meters from the family’s home.
She had stab wounds, and according to the autopsy report, the 12-year-old died of blood loss.
– The children admitted it
Now two girls aged 12 and 13 are suspected of stabbing Luise. Both must be from the 12-year-old’s circle of friends.
Complained of headache – never woke up
During a press conference on Tuesday this week, Mario Mannweiler, who is a representative from the prosecution, said that the death is being investigated as murder:
– The investigations we have carried out so far confirm our suspicion that the girl has been the victim of murder, he says.
When the investigators questioned Luise’s friends and relatives, they were amazed to find major contradictions in the explanations of the two girls.
– Then the children admitted to having committed the offence. The confessions are consistent with the evidence we have, says investigator Florian Locker at the homicide section.
Were friends
Local media, including the online newspaper Merkur, write that the girls are under the criminal minimum age, and therefore cannot be punished for their actions.
The criminal minimum age in Germany is 14. The girls have been taken from their respective families, taken out of school and placed in state care.
Surprising turnaround for death row inmate Iwao (87)
The police further say that the 13-year-old suspect was a close friend of Luise’s, and that it was her that Luise had visited earlier in the day.
– What is a motive for murder for a child is not necessarily as clear for an adult, says Mannweiler.
– Never seen before
Experts describe the violent murder of Luise as a rarity. Child and adolescent psychiatrist Helmut Remschmidt says that it will now be important to find out the motive for the murder.
– In my 40 years as a child and adolescent psychiatrist, I have never seen two girls of this age stab a third girl, he says to the German broadcaster RND.
Transferred to child protection
It is not known why the girls went out to the forest area.
After the murder, the girls must have gone back to the 13-year-old’s home, where the 12-year-old’s father picked her up.
Killed pensioner with moose horn
At 5.30 pm, the 13-year-old is said to have called Luise’s parents and said that she had started to go home. There must be three kilometers between the houses.
– Now we are putting the matter in the hands of the child welfare services, says Mannweiler.
The investigation continues. The police have not yet found the murder weapon.
