On its website, Liverpool FC today confirms the partnership with the American drinks giant.

Many will probably remember that the Reds won the Coca-Cola Cup in 1995, when Cola was a sponsor of the Football League between 2004 and 2010.

Since 1988, they have been a UEFA partner, while the sponsorship with FIFA and the World Cup goes all the way back to 1978.

Ben Latty, commercial director at the club, says:

– We are delighted that Coca-Cola is becoming part of our family of official partners. We are very excited to build this partnership together and we extend a warm welcome to Anfield to Coca-Cola.

– Liverpool FC and Coca-Cola are two iconic global brands working together to bring magical experiences and unique moments that money cannot buy to fans.

– The ambition with all our partnerships is to work with the most inspiring and innovative brands in the world and Coca-Cola fits that ambition in every way.

The collaboration will apply to both the men’s and women’s teams, and build on match days, experiences and limited edition merchandise.

Michael Willeke of Coca-Cola says:

– Having been a central part of football matches for decades, we are thrilled to be able to offer fans the chance to enjoy incredible experiences and unique moments at home, in bars and restaurants and in the stadium as part of our new campaign.

“Football has the power to bring people together and we can’t wait to reward fans across Europe with access to unforgettable moments and a range of benefits that only Coca-Cola can offer in collaboration with our partners.”

Coca-Cola now becomes part of the red family with brands such as Standard Chartered, Nike, Expedia, AXA, Carlsberg, Wasabi, Sorare, Joie, Cadbury, Cardless, AlexBank, Petro-Canada Lubricants, Acronis, SC Johnson, Quorn, Nivea But, Monster Energy, Mauritius Tourism, Sono and Kodansha.
