On Thursday evening, the A international matches continued and United had three players with matches in the Nations League around Europe.

Christian Eriksen started and scored a dream goal for Denmark. Raphael Varanecaptain for the occasion, played the entire match for France, while Tyrell Malacia sat on the bench for the entire match as the Netherlands continued their fine streak in the Nations League with a 2-0 win against Poland.

Croatia 2-1 Denmark

Nations League, A1
Stadium Maksimir, Zagreb

Goal: 1-0: Borna Sosa (49th), 1-1: Christian Eriksen (77th), 2-1 Lovro Majer (79th)

Denmark led Group A1 before tonight’s games and with a win in Croatia could secure first place and a semi-final place in the Nations League. Unfortunately for the Danes, things got tough in the Croatian capital.

After an evenly played and goalless first half, Croatia took the lead shortly after the break. The Danes had to make moves and Eriksen was moved further out to the side in the middle. He made the most of that and showed off his magical foot and scored a keeper from over 30 metres. Just after Eriksen’s equaliser, Denmark got another late goal in the fleesen, which was also the last score of the match and Denmark lost 2-1.

Denmark thus dropped to second place in the group, but can still win if they beat France in the Park next Sunday and if Austria also takes points against Croatia.

France 2-0 Austria

Nations League, A1
Stade de France, Paris

Goal: 1-0: Kylian Mbappé (56th), 2-0 Olivier Giroud (65th)

France went out for a hundred and came up with several great goal chances, but were repeatedly stopped by Austria’s goalkeeper. The one save just before the break stood out as the big moment of the half when he was lightning fast with his paw on a brass attempt from Tchouameni.

After the break, the drive towards the Austrian goal from the French stars continued and ten minutes into the half, Mbappé knocked the ball into the goal after a wonderful individual performance.

Raphael Varane played safely in the heart of France’s central defense and was given time to hit good crosses both right and left to set up the French wing backs.

In the offensive part of the game, the centre-back dared to take chances in the passing game and started the attack which gave France 2-0. Varane played the ball out to Clauss, who was third last to the ball. The few times he was put to the test along the pitch, the United stopper showed brilliant pace and understanding of the game and kept Arnautovic out of dangerous situations.

There were no more goals at the Stade de France and France easily won 2-0 against Ralf Rangnick and his Austria.

With tonight’s result, France climbed past Austria and out of the “relegation zone” from A1.

Denmark and France meet on Sunday. There, the fates of both teams in this season of the Nations League will be decided, where the Danes can still win the group with a win against France.

France, for its part, should also take points to be sure of not being relegated to level two in the Nations League
