Formula 1 star Lewis Hamilton (39) shocked the motorsport world this week when he left Mercedes in favor of Ferrari.
Hamilton drove for Mercedes for eleven years.
– I am so proud of what we have achieved together, but the time is right for me to take this step. I’m looking forward to the next chapter, he said of the transition.
According to the reports, he will be the best-paid driver in the F1 circus of all time, writes Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet.
The news hit like a bomb earlier this week. Formula 1 journalist Giuliano Duchessa reports that the 39-year-old will earn 100 million dollars, which corresponds to over one billion Norwegian kroner, in annual salary.
In that case, it is a new record in Formula 1.
Previously, the Dutch world champion Max Verstappen was the highest paid with an annual salary of just over NOK 560 million.
Hamilton is said to have earned around NOK 350 million as a Mercedes driver.
Now, according to reports, he almost triples his salary.
Not that money is a problem for the drivers in the Formula 1 circus.
