Kobbie Mainoo scored on Thursday night at Molineux in Wolverhampton to wild cheers from the Manchester United fans.

What everyone may not remember is that it was not the first time Mainoo had decided a game in United’s favor at Molineux.

Yes, actually the undersigned didn’t remember it either until academy boss Nick Cox tweeted about it.

In November 2022, United’s U21 team visited Wolverhampton in the 16th semi-final of the EFL Trophy, and Kobbie Mainoo was an obvious choice from the start.

There was no goal celebration like on Thursday, because it actually ended 0-0 at Molineux, and thus there was a penalty shoot-out that would decide who would advance.

There, Marc Jurado, Charlie McNeill and Manni Norkett scored on United’s first three penalties, while Wolves missed two of their first three. Thus, Kobbie Mainoo could decide the match in United’s favor – and he did so with a hard and good penalty kick. See highlights from the match (including the penalty shootout) here:

Mainoo also played big in the FA Youth Cup semi-final against Wolves’ U18 team six months earlier, but that game was played at Old Trafford, and not at Molineux.

PS. The image at the top of the case is not taken at Molineux, because our photo supplier does not have photos from that match. The picture was taken in another match against Wolves, at Carrington a month earlier.
