Hans Niemann has been banned from the Saint Louis Chess Club after unacceptable behavior, according to the chess club itself. They have published a press release on X/Twitter, where they explain the reason why Niemann is being thrown out.
He is accused of making ugly comments, destroying objects and being uncooperative with the club.
– This was not an easy decision, and we hope this opens up an opportunity for Hans Niemann, where he can make personal reflections and grow, writes the chess club.
The chess club also writes that they will reassess the situation for future tournaments in the coming year, if they notice that he has made progress.

Carlsen with a “verbal kick” to his rivals: – Coming soon to beat you
A few minutes after the chess club announced the ban, the chess player hit back strongly.
– I just want to immediately clarify how incredibly wrong this is, he writes at the start https://twitter.com/HansMokeNiemann/status/1753516113722331446
He further writes that he will go through his view on the matter carefully in a video later.
Niemann claims he has been assured that he would be invited to the USA Championship 2024, and that he was not blacklisted by the chess club.
– I was assured that my relationship with the club was fine, and I never became aware of “inappropriate behavior or rude comments”, writes Niemann.
– It seems that they have decided to destroy the career of one of America’s greatest talents, he writes further.

Conflict with Carlsen
Niemann really became known to the Norwegian public when Magnus Carlsen accused him of cheating during a game in the Sinquefield Cup in 2022.
The chess profile initially sued Carlsen for large sums following the cheating accusations. In August 2023, however, it became known that the conflict was resolved and over.
Nevertheless, Carlsen prevailed in the conflict against Niemann at Fide. The Norwegian chess set won three out of four points. However, he lost the case as he withdrew from the Sinquefield Cup without “valid reason”.
