Address: The Ski Association said no to help from “rich uncles”

According to the newspaper, it was an environment consisting of what are referred to as mediated ski enthusiasts who made contact and wanted to contribute support to the ski association. The background is that the association has made a limited withdrawal to the World Cup races in Canada and the USA in order to save money.

Head of cross-country skiing in the Norwegian Ski Association, Per Elias Kalfoss, confirms the inquiry. He also explains why the union refused to receive funds.

– It is not every day that we receive such inquiries, but it was not relevant for us in this case. Of course we can accept support of various kinds, but then it has to go through a round with our marketing department, and we have to look at how it should be, says Kalfoss and adds:

– We are grateful that people want to contribute, and I invited them to get in touch for a collaboration in the future. Now it was not applicable, as this withdrawal also has a sporting rationale.

The Norwegian Skiing Association selected athletes in the so-called red group in the World Cup, i.e. those who have performed best in the last calendar year, to the slopes in North America. At the same time, an exception was made for the ill Tiril Udnes Weng.

In total, seven women’s and eleven men’s runners have been selected for the races in Canada and the USA. Kalfoss estimates that the travel costs per runner are NOK 60,000-70,000.
