This is confirmed by the association when they announce the withdrawal on Monday morning.
– As for Jakob Ingebrigtsen, he has decided that he will not participate in this year’s EC. He wants to focus on recovery and training after a long and hard season, they write in the press release.
– He has an important year ahead of him, and wants to focus on that, elaborates Espen Skoland, press spokesman for the Ingebrigtsen brothers to Nettavisen.
Skoland also confirms that Henrik Ingebrigtsen will compete as planned, and is looking forward to returning to Brussels where he made his debut in the EC cross-country race.
The injury problems prevented Jakob from participating in the high altitude rally in Sierra Nevada in November, and the Ingebrigtsen camp is said to have considered that he will not be in good enough shape for the championship.
The 23-year-old has won the European Terrain Championship seven times in a row, but the eighth victory seems to have to wait.
TV 2 previously wrote that there must have been hope that he would be ready for the championship right up until the last few days.
The European Cross Country Championships will be held in Brussels on 10 December.
