The police shot at a man in police action

In connection with an assignment in Knarvik in Alver municipality on the night of Friday, the police fired shots at a man.

The police stated this in a press release early Friday morning.

The man who was shot was immediately taken care of by health personnel and taken to Haukeland University Hospital, they further state.

On Friday morning, on-call lawyer Jan Christian Alvheim in the West police district told TV 2 that the man had been formally arrested and charged with threats.

– He is admitted to hospital and has the status of being charged. The charge concerns threats, he says.

He did not comment on the matter further.

The Bureau writes in a press release on Friday morning that a situation arose at the emergency room which caused the police to fire shots.

– The Bureau has been notified that just after midnight the police assisted the healthcare system at the Nordhordaland emergency room. In connection with the assignment, a situation arose with the person, a man in his 20s, which led to the police firing shots. He was awake and conscious when he was taken by ambulance from the scene. No one else was injured in connection with the incident, the press release states.

– The special unit has decided to launch an investigation. The purpose of the investigation is to elucidate the course of events, and the more detailed circumstances surrounding the situation where shots were fired.

Kripos has been notified and will assist the Bureau with crime scene investigations, they write.

– Weapons involved will be secured. The Bureau will question the officials and witnesses as soon as possible.

Blocked the entrance

The person is awake and conscious, the police said on Friday night.

The police have blocked off the entrance to the emergency room in Knarvik. A tarpaulin has also been hung over the area that is blocked off.

– We cannot say anything more about this. I have to refer you to the Special Unit which is investigating the case, says operations manager Eirik Loftesnes in the West police district to TV 2.

Interrogation by police officers

Weapons involved will be secured, and the Bureau will question officials and witnesses as soon as possible, they say.

– The purpose of the investigation is to elucidate the course of events, and the more detailed circumstances surrounding the situation where shots were fired, writes Larsen in an email.

For the sake of the further investigation, no more detailed information about the case is given at the present time, they further state.

The Bureau says they will issue an updated press release today at 3 p.m.
