Benjamin Mendy (29) is suing the old club for salary deductions following the rape charge.

The Frenchman was charged with rape and attempted rape in 2021. He was acquitted in July.

Mendy’s contract with City expired in the summer of 2023 – then he had not played a single match for the club since the charge.

Now Sky reports that the 29-year-old has filed a lawsuit against the old club – a lawsuit based on “unauthorized deduction of salary” in the period after the charge. A representative for Mendy tells Sky that City withheld wages from September 2021 until the contract expired this summer.

During his time at City, the Frenchman won three league titles – and was part of the French team that won the World Cup in 2018.

Mendy signed this summer for French side Lorient.
