– One of the best things about Norway is our democracy. That you can believe what we want. That we can say what we want. And that we can love those we want, the princess said in her speech during the gala dinner at the Palace on Friday night.

Guests from home and abroad are present to mark the princess’s authority day, which was 21 January. During the speech, Norway’s hereditary princess took the opportunity to reflect a little on the country we live in.

– We are lucky to live in a country that is constantly evolving. Where we trust each other and our authorities. In Norway, we are concerned about climate. We are concerned with diversity. We are concerned with freedom of expression. And most importantly, we are concerned with continuing to find better solutions than the ones we already have, said the princess.

TV series and nature

She also boasted of the Norwegian nature and the Norwegian people.

– I am so lucky that I have grown up in Norway. I have experienced our beautiful nature; surf at Unstad, hot summer days in Sørlandet and snow-capped mountains in Røldal. And not least, I have met many of the nice people who live around our country.

The 18-year-old speech was also full of praise for family and friends. The mother, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, was highlighted as a good TV series partner.

– Mom, we can talk about everything. Thank you for allowing us to lie on the couch and watch series together, such as “Sex and the City”. I really appreciate everything you do for me, said the princess, to the laughter of the guests.

Touched

His father, Crown Prince Haakon, was thanked, among other things, for “fixing and arranging” and for being calm when the others are not. The grandparents were thanked for humor, stories and funny stories.

The princess also revealed a little about the inner life on board the royal ship Norway, which the royal family often uses on holidays.

– Dear grandfather, it’s so nice to be with you. Thank you for the evenings on the royal ship where we sit and watch sports and cowboy movies together. And not least, thank you for always having a good joke when the mood is a bit low.

She was clearly moved during the tributes to the family members. The princess’ speech was concluded to great applause from the guests.
