– The answer and the solution still lie with the parties, says Minister of Education Tonje Brenna (Ap) after calling the parties to a meeting on Friday afternoon. Next week, teachers at Drammen and Åssiden VGS will go on strike.
NORWAY: KS and the Education Association met on Friday afternoon in the Ministry of Education.
There has long been speculation as to whether the deadlocked conflict will end in a forced wage tribunal after more than 8,000 teachers across the country have gone on strike, but that was not the case.
– The reports we have heard are serious, and that is why I wanted to speak to the parties. I understand more about where the parties stand, Brenna stated in a press conference after the meeting.

The Norwegian Education Confederation announced on Friday afternoon that Drammen will be affected by a new escalation with 300 new teachers from Wednesday next week. According to the association, only pupils in first class are protected.
For the time being, Drammen Videregående and Åssiden videregående skole are on the strike list at the Education Association.
Many pupils have not been to school at all after the summer holidays, and pupils have the constitutional right to go to school. The situation has led to negative consequences for many, both in the form of absence requirements and psychological stress.
The Education Confederation is striking for increased pay for the teachers with the longest seniority, and would therefore not accept the offer that other employees in Norwegian municipalities accepted in this year’s salary settlement.
