– Today we finally opened, but the really big opening party will be on the 23rd-25th. May, Fredriksen says with a big smile.

She has been waiting a long time for this day, at least ever since she bought Norway’s largest independent horse shop, Skoies AS, from the couple Bente and Edmund Skoie in February. Fredriksen’s plan at the time was to merge Skoies AS and his own Equitopia AS and create one large store in Vallermyrene, and as I said, so done.

Now the 700 square meters she rents from Gumpens Auto are soon filled to the brim with riding and horse equipment, riding clothes and every type of cover/clothing for horses you can think of.

– The store itself is 400 square meters, and if customers can’t find what they need from our huge selection of clothes and equipment here, we also have an online store. In addition, we have a warehouse of 300 square meters, and among other things have converted the former deck hotel into a deck hotel, laughs Fredriksen.

Large parking space

The horse shop Skoies now shares a building with the Plantehallen at Vallermyrene, and Fredriksen is super happy with the location close to the E18 and a short distance from the Vallermyrene camp.

– We have also got a large car park, which makes it easier for customers who come driving with a horse trailer, and preferably with a horse inside too, when they go shopping. In addition, it is a short distance from Grenland Ryttersportsklubb at Vallermyrene camp, so that when there are events there, horse girls can just jump on an electric scooter and get to the shop quickly, says Fredriksen.

Set high goals

It might be wrong to say hairy, but Fredriksen at least has high goals in terms of annual turnover going forward.

– As the largest independent horse shop, Skoies AS had a turnover of around 30 million a year in Lindesnes. But now that the store is even more centrally located here in Porsgrunn with customers from all over Norway in mind, I absolutely aim to beat it going forward, says Tonje Flaaten Fredriksen.

She herself could point to a turnover in Equitopia AS of just under four million and a small profit in 2023.

– But with one large store, we will be able to sell a completely different volume than before, and if I were to guess, Saturdays will be the busiest days, and of course when there are conventions at the Vallermyrene camp, Fredriksen says with a twinkle in his eye.
