Bergen municipality – The new football field at Slettebakken is now open

City councilor for urban development, Christine Kahrs, and city councilor for industry, culture and sport, Reidar Digranes, opened the new football field at Slettebakken today.

Today we opened the new football field at Slettebakken, and the students from Slettebakken school had the opportunity to test the field with both football and other ball activities.

Well over 70 people turned up at the opening of the new football pitch at Slettebakken. The new track is a replacement track for the old track which is now being demolished. Both tracks are located on the disused waste landfill, which the Norwegian Environmental Agency is in the process of remediating.

Thanked the local community and those involved

City councilor for urban development, Christine Kahrs, congratulated Slettebakken on a new, state-of-the-art artificial grass pitch with no infill. She thanked the local community for the patience and understanding they have shown over the years and thanked everyone who contributed to getting the track in place.

The importance of sport for the local community

The city councilor for industry, culture and sport, Reidar Digranes, focused on the importance of sport for the local community in his speech:

— It’s not just about scoring goals or winning matches, but about creating a safe and healthy environment for everyone. With this track, we are laying the foundations for an active lifestyle, for friendships that last a lifetime, and for shaping future leaders and sports stars, he said.

The general manager of Trane Sports Club, Arild Hovland, set the right mood when he got pupils from Slettebakken to shout the battle cry of the local football club, “Hey Trane”. He also thanked for good cooperation with Bergen municipality.

The city council put the ball in the goal

City councilor Christine Kahrs opened the pitch by blowing the whistle, and city councilor Reidar Digranes took the plunge and put the ball in the goal. This is how the course was declared officially open. Expectant pupils from Slettebakken school then used the track.

A football field for everyone

The new football field will be owned by the Swedish Sports Agency, and Trane Sports Association will use it for training and matches. The field will not only be a place for organized football, it will also be accessible to children and adults in the neighborhood and to the school in the area.
