Tanker and car in serious accident on E16 in Vaksdal

All the emergency services move out after a serious traffic accident in Vaksdal.

A passenger car and a tanker have collided in the Stavenestunnel on the E16 in Vaksdal.

According to operations manager Steinar Husvik, at the West police district, the tanker must contain a corrosive liquid. The liquid must be leaking from the tanker, according to the 110 centre.

– The tunnel must be closed and evacuated, except for any people in the car. We currently have no control over them, says operations manager Steinar Hausvik.

He states that the police currently do not have an overview of the number of people who have been in the car.

At 18.55, all emergency services must be on site.

The extent of the damage is currently unknown.

The emergency services have sent large resources to the scene. BT’s journalist Stein Langeland is stuck in the queue at Trengereid and says that at least ten emergency vehicles have passed.

The tunnel closed for a while

Traffic operator Hans Gustav Møvik-Olsen states that there must be a head-on collision.

The detour will be via Hardanger on county road 49 and county road 79, as the tunnel will be closed for quite some time, writes Vegtrafikksentralen on X/Twitter.
