Gas alarm at Statfjord A
The gas alarm has gone off on the oil and gas platform Statfjord A. This is reported by BT.
The incident must have happened shortly after 7pm. There is no drama in the situation, says the press contact at Equinor to Bergens Tidende.
– I can confirm that a hydrogen sulphide leak has occurred in one shaft on the Statfjord A platform, says press contact Ellen Maria Skjelsbæk at Equinor to BT.
Skjelsbæk also tells the newspaper that they have shut down production and depressurized the platform. There is no question of explosive gas.
As a precautionary measure, the company sends crews who do not have priority tasks over to neighboring platforms and to shore.
– The reason why we are moving personnel is that we do not want them to be exposed. No one has been exposed so far, says Skjelsbæk to the newspaper.
When gas alarms go off, the company has a procedure that production is shut down to make sure that nothing happens, she says.
They are now working to find out where the leak is and fix it.
The oil and gas field is located west of the mouth of the Sognefjord. Equinor is the operator.
