Belgian couple wanted in Tenerife

--

On 22 April, the Belgian couple Laura Trappeniers (66) and Marc Olbrechts (71) are said to have gone to take part in a yoga class on the Spanish holiday island of Tenerife, where the couple live.

But the two never showed up for class.

When they didn’t show up for the next yoga class either, two days later, the couple’s friends raised the alarm.

After being missing for over a week, Laura has now been found, reports the Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws.

The husband is still missing.

– Did not go voluntarily

It was when friends were informed that the two had missed yet another yoga class that the couple were wanted by the Spanish authorities.

But already on the first day the two did not show up for class, several unusual observations are said to have been made in their home.

The man who maintains the couple’s swimming pool tells the newspaper that there was a light on in the house and that the back door was unlocked. He also says that Laura’s mobile phone and keys were in the house, but that no one was home.

– No, they did not go voluntarily, the man says to the newspaper.

More unanswered questions

On May 1, the website of the Spanish National Center for Missing Persons (CNDES) shows that Laura is now “located”.

Where and when Laura was found, whether she is alive or dead, why she has been missing for over a week and where her husband is, are still unanswered questions.

CNDES does not wish to comment on the matter to the newspaper.

The Belgian authorities confirm to the newspaper that they are aware of the case, and that they are cooperating with the Spanish authorities.

– Belgium’s department for foreign affairs in Brussels and the Belgian consulate on Tenerife continue to closely monitor the disappearance of the Belgian couple, a spokesperson in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told the newspaper.
