Now the signs are changing: I think traffic will increase by 20 per cent

From Monday 6 May, it is no longer allowed to drive electric cars in the public transport lanes towards and in Oslo.

The signs will be changed for the next two nights.

– Today it says “does not apply to electric motor vehicles without passengers 06-09”. The text “without passengers 06-09” will be taped over, says Halvard Gavelstad, project manager for traffic at the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.

In addition to affecting the driving pattern of motorists, the change may also be noticeable to those who take the bus, according to public transport company Ruter:

*Several bus lines will have a different driving pattern, including bus line 37 and the regional buses from the west.

*Some bus lines will have new stops and some stops will be closed.

*Delays may occur on several departures, as a result of increased load on the road network.

Our most important recommendation to travelers is to leave the car and either take the train or use the tram or subway, writes Ruter. The Norwegian Public Roads Administration also recommends that people who can, leave their cars parked.

– We encourage those who can, to travel by public transport, possibly combining it with cycling and walking, says Gavelstad.

– There will be significant extra queues if more people do not travel by public transport, because we will get up to 20 per cent more traffic in the ordinary car lanes when we move the electric cars over there, he says.

It is valid for three years.

From the summer of 2024 to the summer of 2027, Ring 1 (rv. 162) in the center of Oslo will be temporarily closed. This is happening because the Hammersborg Tunnel and the Vaterland Tunnel are to be rebuilt and upgraded.

Ring 1 will be closed from the intersection St. Olavsgate in the west to the roundabout at Oslo Spektrum in the east.
