The Rivian R1T (pickup) is one of the best cars the editors have tested, regardless of category.

We attach little faith, but great hope, to the rumours

So when we heard that Apple would be interested in a partnership with the California manufacturer, we were at first happy, but then disappointed. The reason is that the source is Digitimesa notoriously unreliable source that we only report on in rare cases, or if the case gets a slightly different news angle, like this one.

As a rule, Digitimes always uses the quote “sources with knowledge of the plans in the production network,” and that is also the case this time. Anything is possible, and Apple is more likely to revive the Titan project than many other possible projects. If any of this is true, at least that they are talking or have talked, it means that the reporting on the car project’s cancellation in February is flawed at best.

One of the reasons why the two will fit well together, besides both companies identifying with the culture of California, Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe had the following to say about having control over everything to serve the best experience, a strong Apple- tradition Cupertino enough anyway had trumped through:

“With many of the things we do, whether it’s music or mapping, we have to make sure it integrates with best-in-class platforms. By controlling the system, it only allows us to be the judge of the experience you get, versus handing over control of what we believe is one of the most important parts of the experience.”
