On June 21, FromSoftware will launch Shadow of the Erdtree, the first expansion for Elden Ring. It will also be the action role-playing game’s last expansion, game director Hidetaka Miyazaki has confirmed.

In an interview with Chinese Bonfire Camp, Miyazaki explained that the team decided to release the additional content in a single package. This is to deliver a more coherent experience, which according to the game manager fits better with Elden Ring’s focus on free exploration of a large and open world.

Thus, there will be no more content after the launch of Shadow of the Erdtree, according to Miyazaki. However, FromSoft has previously said that this will be the biggest expansion the studio has ever made, so there should be no shortage of content.

However, the game manager did not want to reveal exactly how much content is involved. As Miyazaki explained, he was accused of telling lies when he said it would take around 30 hours to complete the Ring of Fire. Instead, most players spent two to three times that amount, so Miyazaki doesn’t think he’s the best person to guess the number of hours played in Shadow of the Erdtree.

Otherwise, the FromSoft manager could say that the expansion will introduce several new characters to get to know. A number of new weapon types will also be added, as well as a new system for acquiring experience points. The latter pretends to give players the choice to lock the level of their character, making the experience a little more difficult for whoever wants it.
