The Norwegian Environment Agency has received an application from Equinor Energy AS for permission to lay stones for the installation of pipelines and seabed facilities on Kristin Q in the Norwegian Sea.

The application includes the laying of stone to cover and protect an 81 meter long loop of pipeline which is very close to a coral structure, approx. 900 meters away from the seabed frame on Kristin Q. The stone masses are to be lowered into a net made of recycled polyester. Equinor assesses this solution as best available technology (BAT).

Equinor assesses the risk of sedimentation and other physical impact on the coral structure as low. This is because the rock nets can be placed on the seabed with an accuracy of approx. 1 meter within the operating window of the vessel, and because the method causes little upheaval of sediments. The application and other relevant documents are at the bottom of this page.

Any statements must be sent to the Norwegian Environment Agency via this page, not to the Norwegian Environment Agency’s post office. The statements will be on the consultation page and will be visible to all interested parties. The decision and the permit can be found in our post journal (eInnsyn.no) and the permit can be found in Norwegian emissions after the case has been decided.
