Fire – Rosenborg 3-0 (1-0)

Brann took a real hit in midweek when they were knocked out of the cup against Levanger.

On Saturday, they had the opportunity to avenge the disappointing exit, and the red shirts did.

The home team was the best from start to finish in the match against Rosenborg, and scores from Ole Didrik Blomberg, Aune Heggebø and Niklas Castro ensured that it eventually ended 3-0.

– Brann is about to pull off the best performance of the year and a massive performance at a packed Brann Stadium, said TV 2’s expert Jesper Mathisen right after the home team had increased their lead to 3-0.

Brann was also closer to his fourth than what Rosenborg was a reduction. The victory sends the Bergens to the top of the table before the rest of the elite league teams have played their matches in the sixth round. They now have 14 points after seven games.

– I am very satisfied with the match, and it is much easier to play our type of football when the opposing teams come out and want to join in the dance, Eirik Horneland summarized to TV 2 after the match.

The Brann coach also acknowledged that it was important to fight back in such a way after the cup exit in Levanger.

– We needed this, because people have to believe in this team. We will fill up a stadium with 17,000, and the stadium must rock. It was good to answer the indictment today.

Rosenborg, on the other hand, is on its second straight loss in the Eliteserien. Another tough away game awaits the Trønders next week. Then they travel to Molde.

– It is simply a damned bad match from us. We just have to acknowledge that, and we have to stick our finger in the ground. This is where we stand now. Today we have been properly run by a very good Brann team, but that is not where we want to be, was Ole Sæter’s honest judgment after the end of the match.

Bang start

Nor did it take more than two minutes before Brann took the lead.

Rosenborg buzzed it in the back rows, and suddenly Blomberg was alone through. The Brann winger threw himself forward and dive-headed the ball over Sander Tangvik in beautiful fashion.

– He plunges it in in purest Robin van Persie fashion, Mathisen said.

The home team continued to press, and both Blomberg and Heggebø had great opportunities to increase the lead. Tangvik in the RBK cage, on the other hand, persevered with several good saves to keep the visitors in the game.

The visitors created very little, but had some good opportunities just before the break. Emil Frederiksen came closest in overtime, but from around ten meters he sent the ball over the Brann goal.

Same recipe

Rosenborg’s small final sprint in the first half probably gave the visitors renewed faith, but Brann had to do exactly the same as they did from the start after the break.

This time it took three minutes before the ball was in the goal behind Tangvik.

Niklas Castro poked a cross onto the head of Aune Heggebø. The power forward cashed in Brann’s second of the day and his fourth elite series scorer of the season.

Soon after, Emil Kornvig had the all-time opportunity to increase the lead. The home team received a penalty kick after a clumsy intervention by Tangvik, but from eleven meters the Danish midfielder blew the ball far over.

However, the boom was not fatal. The home side continued to dominate the game and 20 minutes before full-time Castro made the final score 3-0 when he acrobatically scored on a volley.
