It’s a quiet TV weekend for Norwegian golf fans this weekend with no Norwegians in action, but in just a few days the country’s biggest star is back in the PGA Tour circus.

Viktor Hovland is back, it became clear when the field for next week’s Wells Fargo Championship was published late Friday night.

Last seen Viktor Hovland play in a PGA Tour tournament was Friday in The Masters. Then he missed the cut for the first time in almost two years, and has been training hard with an old coach Dana Dahlquist. The duo was reunited just before the major tournament.

Since then, the start lists for one tournament after another have appeared without the Norwegian’s name. Until now.

Because in next week’s Wells Fargo Championship, the Ekeberg man’s name is again on the list.

The tournament is one of the PGA tours signature tournaments, which means a higher prize pool and thus a stronger starting field. It has also been confirmed that players who Rory McIlroy, Wyndham Clark, Xander Schauffele and Ludvig Åberg will be seen at Quail Hollow GC in North Carolina.

The biggest name that not is to look at the start list are sunny worlds Scottie Scheffler. His wife is expected to give birth to their first child these days, and the couple understandably have other things on their minds than golf.

Warming up to the year’s second major

For many of the biggest stars, the Wells Fargo Championship is a good warm-up opportunity for the year’s second major tournament. For the week after (May 16-19) the stage is set for the PGA Championship.

This year the major will be played on Valhalla Golf Club in Kentucky which is considered a very difficult course, even for the pros. It has hosted the PGA Championship three times previously, most recently in 2014 (McIlroy won on a score of -16). Jack Nicklaus has drawn the course.

It was in last year’s edition of the tournament that Viktor Hovland got his best major ranking. He then finished in second place after a duel against Brooks Koepka on the sister round. The American emerged victorious, but the Norwegian responded by winning The Memorial Tournament just two weeks later.

PS! This week, The CJ Cup Byron Nelson is played on the PGA Tour. Jake Knapp leader after half played tournament at -14.

Here is the leaderboard as it stands right now.
