The teenager came at great speed towards the police and was shot and killed, states Premier Roger Cook in Western Australia.

At a press conference together with the police, the state minister stated that there are indications that the boy had been radicalized via the internet.

According to ABC News, the incident took place in the suburb of Willetton, south of the Western Australian city. The channel reports that it was the boy himself who alerted the police in the first emergency call just after 10pm on Saturday evening local time. He is said to have said that he was going to carry out an act of violence. The police also received another emergency call from someone at the scene.

Cook states that members of the Muslim community in the state also called to notify the police.

At the scene, police found a man with stab wounds to the back, according to ABC News.

The state’s police chief states that the boy was known to the police from before – and participated in a scheme to prevent people who are at risk of being radicalised.
