– It is a serious breach of the Energy Act to initiate the construction of electrical installations without a permit. This undermines the entire licensing scheme, and is something we will crack down on in the future, says section chief in the Norwegian Directorate of Water Resources and Energy (NVE), Anne Johanne Kråkenes in a press release on NVE’s website.

NVE believes that Norled has broken the law in connection with the construction of a ferry loading facility at Årvika ferry quay in Sande municipality in Vestland county, which must have been started before there was permission from NVE. This was discovered when NVE processed the license application in March 2022.

The permit was granted shortly afterwards, but NVE must have simultaneously notified Norled that the incident would be followed up. The shipping company must also have been notified of a possible infringement fee in September 2023.

Communications manager at Norled, Cathrine Gjertsen, confirms to NTB that they have received the decision from NVE, and says they will now go through and look into it more closely. Gjertsen will not give any further comments on the matter for the time being.
