How can we maintain and defend democracy and human rights in Europe at a time of war and crisis?

This is the main theme at the European Conference on Democracy and Human Rights on 6 May 2024. The European Conference is the largest event during the annual Democracy Week in Kristiansand 2 – 8 May, a week that invites participation, discussion and participation.

These are some of the hot topics that will be discussed at the European conference in Kilden theater and concert hall on Monday 6 May:

  • Russia’s war on Ukraine
  • The situation for security and cooperation in the Nordics and Europe
  • Middle East
  • The Council of Europe’s newly established War Damage Register for Ukraine
  • The new European regulations for the use of artificial intelligence and human rights
  • Artistic freedom of expression

It is the fifth year in a row that the annual European Conference on Democracy and Human Rights is organized in Kristiansand, in collaboration with the Council of Europe. This year, the conference marks the 75th anniversary of the Council of Europe with participation from the Council of Europe’s leadership and from the Storting.
